Fresh wind, great scores: Bernhard Langer sets off birdie fireworks
The first round of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open 2025 began today in fresh late summer temperatures and a moderate wind – with Bernhard Langer making a stupendous start. Once more, the 68-year-old showed why he is among the greatest golfers of all time: he played his way to the top of the leaderboard with a sensational bogey-free round of ten under par (62 strokes) – and thrilled his fans.
Beaming after his round, he declared “I am very happy. I already played six under at the Pro-Am yesterday, and thought it couldn't get any better. I putted very well today, and my putter was really on fire. As a WINSTONgolf ambassador, of course I would love to win in front of a German audience – and so far, I have ended up in a play-off only once here.”
This means that Langer will tee off at 9:20 a.m. tomorrow from tee 10, going into the second round with a four-stroke lead over James Kingston and Markus Brier – and has an excellent chance of securing another title in front of his home fans. The other three German golfers, Christoph Günther (69, 3 under par), Sven Strüver and Thomas Gögele (both 70, 2 under par), also played into promising positions.
Tomorrow morning, round two will start at 9:00 a.m. from tees 1 and 10. Admission is free, and free-of-charge parking is also available. The weekend forecast predicts ideal golfing weather with less wind – so perfect conditions in which to experience Bernhard Langer and the stars of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open live on the course.
